The mission control area
The mission control area enables you to manage and check the data collection process. To access this area the user name and password are always required. You can access the mission control from a number of places:
- On your school homepage.
- The 'set targets' link from the front page and see results page.
The first mission control page is called 'manage your account.' In this area you can:
- Change your password.
- Edit your school details.
- Add members to the Carbon Detectives Team.
- Set CO2 reduction targets.
- Manage the phases of data collection.
When you enter the 'Manage your account' pages for the first time and go to the Phases table you will be asked to open a phase of data collection. You can give the phase any name, but in the interests of tracking improvements it is suggested that you name the phase after the term when the data collection is taking place.
The phases table in the 'manage your account' area:
- Lists the names of each phase.
- States how much CO2 in total was produced in each phase.
- States whether each phase is closed or open. It is essential that only one phase is open at any one time.
- Gives an opportunity to 'View' the data collected in the phase. This allows you to check the data and edit it if you consider incorrect data has been entered.
Clicking on 'view' takes you to the 'phases' page. The tables here give you the chance to check and if necessary edit, the data entered by the Carbon Detectives Team for that phase. You can view and edit data for both closed and open phases.
When you click on 'review' for individual assignments you will be taken to a summary page. Once data has been checked or corrected click on 'phase summary' to confirm the changes.
When you click on 'edit' for the Team assignments you will be taken to the appropriate data entry page of the website. You should click on submit assignment at the bottom the page after you have made any corrections and this will register the changes and take you back to the 'phases' page.
When you are satisfied that the data is correct then you should lock that phase. Once the data has been locked, the site won’t accept any more inputs from your school until a second phase of data collection has been opened or the pages unlocked.
Various safeguards have been built in to the mission control area to ensure that data is secure. However, if you find an error or feel that an improvement should be made, please contact us.
